Our parts kit contains the parts necessary to repair a leaking oil filter housing gasket on your N54 engine.
Only for cars equipped with engine oil cooler
Kit includes the oil filter housing gasket, (3) mounting bolts, oil cooler gasket, (2) screw plugs, (2) seal ring for oil cooler lines, and a replacement oil pressure switch.
A leaking oil filter housing gasket is a very common issue on BMW engines. As the oil filter housing gasket ages, it shrinks and becomes hard/brittle. This condition allows oil to escape past the degraded gasket.
Ignoring this oil leak can lead to bigger issues. The leaking oil can drip onto your serpentine belt and cause the belt to fail. In some cases, the shredded belt can wrap around the crankshaft and get drawn through the crankshaft seal and into the crankcase.
Don't forget to order an oil change kit! See below for BimmerWorld recommended Inspection 1 Oil Change Packages featuring Red Line full-synthetic oil and an OEM oil filter.
Star-socket tools available. The oil filter housing is held in place with three E10 E-Torx bolts. Models with an oil cooler will also need an E12 socket for the three bolts attaching the cooler to the OFH.
Aluminum coolant flange available. It is common to remove the plastic coolant hose flange for better access to the lower bolt on the oil filter housing. This is a good opportunity to replace that failure-prone plastic flange with an upgraded aluminum component.
