Secondary Air Pump & EGR System

Does your BMW have a fault code or check engine light for the secondary air intake (SAI) system? You're not alone! The secondary air pump and air pump valve are high-failure parts on BMWs. A typical code for air pump issues is "Secondary Air System Flow Too Low" (an F5 or F6 code on some BMWs). A failed secondary air pump (aux pump) can cause this, as well as the valve on the exhaust manifold that controls the air flow known as the auxiliary air valve. If either the pump or the valve fail, you won't be able to pass emissions testing. Fortunately this is a fairly simple DIY repair, and BimmerWorld carries the parts on most BMWs.
