Not for 3 series before 3/2003 production: On E46 series models this pump is only for cars with a production date of 03/2003 (March 2003) and newer. Not for cars with a production date before 3/2003. 

Not for cars with M56 SULEV engine.  BMW used the M56 "Super Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle" SULEV engine in California, New York, Massaschusetts and Vermont on 325i and 325Ci models. This air pump will NOT fit the M56 models. It is to be used on the M54 models only.  This only applies to E46 325i/325Ci. 

Not for X5 3.0 liter before 10/2003 (October 2003) production. All 2005 and 2006 X5 3.0 models use this pump, but the BMW X5 3.0i built before 10/2003 use an earlier air pump unit. Please check your production date if you have a 2004 model to be sure it is October 2003 or later before buying this pump.
