The vacuum for turbo wastegate operation is controlled by the ECU through these solenoids. When the engine computer wants to regulate boost by opening the wastegates it sends a signal to this solenoid (one for each turbo). The solenoid applies vacuum to the wastegate actuators to open or close the wastegates. A failure in the solenoid can obviously affect boost levels, leading to a low boost or overboost situation.
