Stud Bolt, M10x40, BMW - E30, E46, E12, E34, E39, E24, E23, M20, M52TU

This part is listed by BMW as BMW part number 11621716870 (11 62 1 716 870) and is described as the M10x40mm stud. On M20 engines this is the exhaust manifold outlet to the catalytic converter connecting pipes. On M52TU engines this is used for the intake manifold bracket on the engine block. Sold per stud.

Exhaust studs are a common replacement item - they are easily ruined by rust, oil, and other chemicals. They are easily cross-threaded into the cylinder head or from the copper nut. And the nut and stud often come out together with the nut seized to the threads. It's always a good idea to have some spare exhaust studs on hand for an emergency or plan to replace a complete set any time a manifold is off.
