The secondary air pump is a source of many headaches on the E39 5 Series V8 models. When the pump fails, it will surely result in a check engine light and a failed emissions / smog check. Fortunately a new air pump can cure the issue and get your E39 back in compliance.  

Not for cars before the 1999 model year. This SAI pump is only for 1999, 2000, 2001, and 2003 model  years.
