BMW M TwinPower Turbo 0W40 Synthetic Engine Oil
Recommended oil for BMW turbo M engines
BMW M TwinPower 0W40 carries a LL-01 approval and is ACEA A3/B4 rated. This is the new BMW-approved oil recommended for turbocharged M engines that require extra protection at elevated temperatures. This oil is better suited for M turbo engines than the 0W30 "Fuel Efficient" oil used in non-M cars.
The BimmerWorld view: It's too soon to tell if new turbo M engines are having oil issues and need their own oil. It sounds promising that BMW would spec a new oil specific for turbo M engines. We're not huge fans of 0W oils unless ultimate fuel efficiency or reduced cold-start friction is desired. We prefer to have a heavier weight 5W30 or 5W40 oil with high ZDDP levels that provide superior protection than the latest "fuel efficient" oil formulas.
