Red Line Oil is an easy choice for every car we put on the racetrack. Their raw materials are superior and their resulting product has proven, over numerous tests and engine wear inspections in our own racing program, to give more protection while freeing up measurable power.

Red Line Synthetic Race Oils are made with the most thermally-stable synthetic base stocks available and provide the best high-temperature lubrication and a higher film strength over any petroleum or synthetic on the market today. Although Red Line racing oils are categorized as "straight grades," their low-temperature properties make them exceptional multigrades, allowing 2-4% more power than an oil of similar viscosity, while providing much more protection. Each reduction in viscosity grade allows 1-2% more power. To reduce the chance of detonation, these race oils contain very few detergents and are not recommended for street use.

One of the biggest topics in modern synthetic engine oils is the level of Zinc Dialkyl-Dithio-Phosphate (ZDDP) anti-wear additive contained in the oil. ZDDP protects by creating a film on cams and flat lifter contact points in response to the extreme pressure and heat at the contact point. The film of zinc and phosphorus compounds provides a sacrificial wear surface protecting the base metal of the cam and lifter from wear. Every synthetic engine oil manufacturer has different levels of this particular additive included in their base-stock, among other additives to increase the amount of anti-wear properties in the oil. The real issue is modern API (American Petroleum Institute) approved oils lack the anti-wear properties needed for our performance driven engines.

There are numerous reasons why the EPA has required the removal of these anti-wear additives from modern oils, including added pollution and increased cost of these particular elements. These modern "updated" oils have almost zero ZDDP, and this can play a serious role in shortening your engine's lifespan, whether your dealer will inform you of this or not! So, if you can find an API approval stamp on the label of a quart of oil, chances are it lacks the anti-wear properties needed for proper protection. This is unfortunate, because a majority of oil manufacturers have "met" these specifications so the everyday customer and "quickie lube" will use their lubricants. This leaves our options at the local auto parts store slim for finding a quality lubricant.

Fortunately, there are still oil manufacturers making the best oils they can produce, with no interest in reducing their anti-wear additives to be API compliant. Red Line is one of those manufacturers, and the brand we fully stand behind! Every quart of Red Line engine oil has a complete anti-wear package containing ZDDP and other anti-wear additives for proper engine protection. All of our pro-level race cars use off-the-shelf Red Line products in the engine, transmission, and differential. Our street cars also use Red Line products to increase longevity and performance. We'll go to the local auto shop for our car wax and wash soap, but not our lubricants!

Expected oil life in track conditions is approximately 1000 miles, or 10 on-track hours at full-rev use.

The following is a very general
guideline for oil weight selection.  Engine designs are different, and engines change as they wear.  We suggest a higher weight oil for high-mileage engines or engines that show signs of significant wear - usually one grade higher.  Correct engine oil temperature is 212 °F to 275 °F, with the ideal being approximately 250
°F, but Red Line Oil will perform well at 300 °F and can withstand even higher temperatures for limited intervals.  If your engine temps are too high, go up one weight.
