Valve Cover Update Kit, Rein - 228i/320i/328i/428i/528i, X1/X3/X4, Z4 28i N20

This OEM replacement N20 Valve Cover is the complete valve cover overhaul that includes the gaskets, hardware, oil cap, crankcase hose, and Valvetronic sensor seal. Rein has done extensive materials research and testing to offer a new OE-style plastic valve cover that is more resistant to cracks and warping than the original.

If your 2012, 2013, 2014 or 2015 N20 powered BMW is in need of a valve cover gasket replacement, you should be aware the factory valve cover is a composite (plastic) design, unlike older engine designs which commonly used a aluminum valve cover. This means that with age, mileage, and thousands of heat cycles, the plastic valve cover will become brittle and frail, and will likely develop cracks and oil leaks. It's for this reason that BMW recommends replacing the complete N20 valve cover assembly with new gaskets and seal rings, rather than just replacing the gasket as you might on earlier BMW engines.

Valve cover and valve cover gasket failure is quite common on these cars. It usually happens right around 100k miles, though its been known to strike earlier. Are you getting a smell of burning oil while driving or while idling at a drive-thru with your windows down? This may be due to your valve cover gasket weeping oil onto your hot exhaust manifold. Not only does this risk running your BMW low on oil, it's also known to start engine fires and safety concerns. Another failure relates to the plastic tabs that hold the PCV valve in place snapping or cracking off. Replacement of the valve cover (with new gaskets and hardware) is the proper fix in these cases.

This is an N20 valve cover manufactured by Rein Automotive - an original supplier to BMW for many other engine components.
