This is a OEM Bosch spark plug standard on the 2012+ turbo M engines used in the F87 M2 (N55T0 & S55), F80 M3/F82 M4 (S55), and F10 M5/F06-F13 M6 (S63TU). It's also used in the F26 X4 M40i. This is a motorsport-derived spark plug with a colder heat range than a standard plug used in non-M engines. This helps reduce the chance of misfires and knocking (pre-detonation) from running higher boost and high RPM. As the original spark plug for the S55, it meets BMW requirements for performance, efficiency, and a 25,000 mile replacement interval.
Just like ignition coils, spark plugs are key to the performance and efficiency of your BMW engine. A bad plug(s) will harm performance and fuel mileage and affect drivability and engine smoothness. Unburnt fuel in the exhaust will shorten the lifespan of oxygen sensors and catalytic converters. Spark plugs wear out over a long time, making losses in performance less obvious. Since its introduction, BMW has recommended a 25,000 mile replacement interval for S55 spark plugs.
