Do you have a 2008 or 2009 M3? These early production years require air filter part # 13727838805, which is different than the 2009+ models. This can be a problem because both BMW and Mahle have discontinued the original carbon activated air filter for early S65 models. BMW's official solution is for you to buy a brand S65 new airbox to install part # 13727838804 from the later cars. That's a VERY costly and heavy-handed solution to this problem. Fortunately there's a clever kit to fix this issue, very simply. And the net result is a better flowing filter that will be easy to get as needed moving forward.
How it Works
The original charcoal activated filter was longer, and the airbox was made to accommodate this additional length. The spring-loaded plungers on these airboxes are set for that original filter size. By replacing the plungers with ones of a different size, the “new” style is possible! Two perfectly fitting CAD designed replacement plugs install in your existing plunger positions to accept the shorter non-carbon (full paper) media filter – without any internal gap! The end result is a perfect fit using the 2010-2013 filter, and you'll never deal with the hard-to-find intake-chocking carbon filter again.

Why Convert to the Later Style Filter?
The early filter has been “off the menu” from BMW and parts suppliers for some time now. Making finding a replacement filter that is actually the correct size/shape as the original 13727838805 filter. Worse, some vendors (unknowingly) are listing the 13727838805, but the filter itself has been updated to the later style – and simply will not fit. Buying a whole new stock air box is the alternative, but not a cost effective solution. This easy kit enables use of the readily available and freer flowing non-carbon / paper based filter, without replacing your entire airbox.
