This small rubber hose comes from the intake manifold and connects to the sucking jet pump on E39 540i, E38 740i/iL, E53 X5 4.4/4.6is models. The sucking jet pump is like a one-way check valve and provides additional vacuum to the brake system. Rubber hoses are ideal when new, as they allow some movement and flexibility during driving. The only problem is that they begin to degrade as they age and can eventually fail. This hose helps the brake booster by providing additional braking force.
