The 1972 through 1976 BMW 2002 originally came with a Solex 2 barrel carburetor. The stock carburetor is long since gone, but fortunately the Weber 32/36 DGAV down draught conversion is a simple solution to replace your orginal Solex carb with something easier to maintain and get parts for. This carburetor has been a very popular upgrade for over 30 years, with lots of successful and happy users.
This carb kit allows you to reuse your stock intake manifold/plenum, and includes a water choke system. The BMW M10 runs very well with this setup, and unlike some other (more aggressive) set ups (such as side draft conversions, etc) this carburetor doesn't wildly over-fuel an otherwise stock 2.0 liter engine, giving it some performance advantages over the stock carb, but mild street manors including a nice idle, and responsive throttle response.
This is a complete replacement of the Solex 2BL carb, and includes a simple rectangular air filter element instead of the large circular intake housing. Your stock air cleaner can be made to work with this Weber cab, but requires some basic modification / fabrication to do so. The included air filter is a very normal site on the 2002, and works quite will, so most use it as it comes in the kit, without the stock air cleaner housing.
If you're looking for a very “bolt on” solution for 72-76 models, this is the #1 solution with decades of good results. To install this on a pre-1972 model, you will have to source the 2 barrel intake manifold. This kit is made specifically as a replacement for the 2BL Solex, so cars with the 1BL Solex (1968-1971) will need to change or modify their stock manifold,
Includes all the basic parts required to convert from the Solex to the Weber 32/36, including the fully assembled carburetor, conversion adapter/gasket, fuel and vacuum hoses, hose clamps, air cleaner, and instructions.
This carburetor kit is C.A.R.B. legal, and includes an exemption (D133-6) that makes it fully 50-state legal and CARB / SMOG compliant.
