If you are replacing light bulbs on any car, or want to prevent corrosion on an electrical connection, we recommend having a handful of pouches of this high quality dielectric contact grease. This convenient pack is enough for most one-off jobs.
Why is dielectric contact grease important?
Electrical contacts are imperfect. This is true of bulb holder prongs, contact points on light bulbs, fuses, relays, and any electrical terminal or contact. Any space or “air gap” between the metal contacts are an opportunity for contaminants like moisture, salt, or dirt. Even the tiniest microscopic air gap can allow moisture, eventually leading to corrosion to form. Corrosion both impedes electrical flow and ultimately damages your connector, socket, contact pin, or connector.
By adding a dab of dielectric grease, you are taking up that imperfect contact and replacing it with a conductive and corrosion resistant material. This creates a simple barrier and helps keep your electrical contact as clean as possible, protecting both sides of the connection.
It also serves as a lubricant to help make a bulb or electrical connection slide in and install easier.
