The S55 engine used in the M2/M3/M4 uses a dual-pickup oil pump that is both more efficient and better adapted for track and racing use than the standard N55 oil pump. BMW even used the complete S55 system on the factory M235i/M240i Racing model.
The main S55 oil pump has revised internals that make it more efficient and it pumps more oil than the standard N55 pump. Different materials also make it stronger and more durable when used in hotter temperatures.
BMW added a second oil pump that collects oil from the corners of the oil pan, also called a suction or scavenger pump. The second pump helps distribute oil under hard longitudinal forces, specifically under braking when all of the oil sloshes forward. Dual front pickups on the suction pump take in oil, even when the main sump pickup is dry. The second pump is used with a revised deflector plate (windage tray or baffle) to retain oil in the pan and reduce "churning losses" from too much oil coating the crankshaft.
With the dual-pickup system oil starvation is greatly minimized or eliminated. In multiple seasons of racing the M4 and M235iR we have not had any oil-related trouble. With so many of these factory race cars competing around the world you won't find a better bolt-on oil starvation solution.
This is an extensive kit that allows you to retrofit the oil pumps to your N55 engine. The S55 oil pan is required but sold separately. It has a larger capacity and guaranteed compatibility with all components. We have not tried to fit this kit to a standard N55 oil pan.

Fitment includes most N55-powered RWD models from 2/2012 production date. BMW made a change to the oil system at that time and this kit is compatible with the later production.
All parts are OE BMW or from an OEM supplier to BMW.
