Ground Cable (Starter to Chassis) - E82 E90 E91 E92 E93

This part is listed by BMW as BMW part number 12427549393 (12 42 7 549 393) and is described as Genuine BMW Ground Cable - 12427549393 - E82/E88 1 Series (128i and 135i), and the E90/E91/E92/E93 3 Series (325i, 325xi, 328i, 328xi, 330i, 330xi, 335i, 335xi). This includes cars for the 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013 model years.

The engine ground cable is fairly exposed to the elements, and is situated low and in the path of water and the elements. After years of age, mileage and stress, it gets super oxidized and the engine ground cable begins to deteriorate. The ground (or "Earth") wiring becomes brittle and compromised, making it hard for the electrons and voltage to flow as intended. This can be linked to slow-cranking as well as "my BMW won't start" issues. 

As these cars are now at the age, we recommend inspecting your engine to chassis ground strap at your next oil change or service. If it's looking frail, green and brittle, or frayed, you should replace it as preventative measure. Also, if you are hunting no start or slow cranking issues, this strap should be on your list of items to troubleshoot, as it can cause or contribute to slow / no start issues or electrical issues on your N51/N52/N54/N55 powered E82/E88 1 Series or E9X 3 series.
