With incredibly tight machining tolerances versus other mass production methods, these hand-crafted dampers are designed with only premium materials versus less durable and costly housings and internals. MCS pays close attention to even the smallest of details to provide repeatable results at all temperatures and shock settings. These ultra-premium dampers have a feel, ride quality, and grip capability that lesser dampers simply can't match - you absolutely get what you pay for.
Motion Control Suspension (MCS) has over 50 years of experience in the racing suspension industry and have created the newest, and one of the most advanced damper systems on the market today. The secret to MCS success is in the valving - co-developed with BimmerWorld for BMW E9X M3. The SA shocks have 18 clicks for rebound and each setting is distinctly different than the others. This does let you tune the damping control for a variety of situations and surfaces. A street setting has tremendous compliance even with stiff springs. And track settings have plenty of control. An MCS-unique blow-off valve is also part of the package. All MCS products are designed from a blank canvas, a foundation of winning damper products – the MCS damper is the absolute best product that can be produced.
Can I run rear coil over in E9X M3? No one has done independent lab testing of the loads the rear shock towers can take. However, in our experience the rear shock towers are sufficiently reinforced from the factory that no additional reinforcement is needed. Especially if running softer springs and street tires. However, for any regular track use we would like to see a cage or half-cage in the car anyway. These usually tie into the shock towers and add thickness and rigidity.
Rear coil over may not be possible or ideal in certain situations. The coil over arrangement takes up space in the wheel well (which may affect rear tire sizing). Rear coil overs may need to be inverted for other clearance issues. Running inverted exposes the shock rod to more debris. Separated (divorced) rear springs is more common because it maintains the traditional and familiar layout and avoids the potential drawbacks. It's also slightly less expensive.
Factory EDC: these coil over shocks replace the factory EDC shocks. However, the EDC system must either be disabled via programming (coding) or with a separate EDC-delete module.

Front Camber Plates. Ground Control or Vorshlag. These MCS dampers require a set of camber plates for the front mounting point. Camber plates must be sized correctly for the MCS strut pin and your spring size. If you want to re-use your existing camber plates the bearing spacer inside must match the MCS strut. Contact us with any need for the correct parts.
Rear Spring Perches. Choose from a fixed height-adjustable perch or an articulating / pivoting perch. This sits above or below the spring to provide rear ride height adjustments.
Rear spring note: in a divorced rear spring (not a coil over rear) the spring perch inside the rear control arm is slightly too large for a 2.25" spring. You will need to use 60mm or 2.5" rear springs.
Spring Thrust Bearings. These are discs that allow the spring to rotate with the steering angle and prevent binding. We have Torrington needle bearing sets or friction slide discs. These are optional but well worth the low cost. 2.25" springs only.
Sway Bar Links. Adjustable sway bar links are required for the front and recommended in the rear. Stock front links are too long so shorter and adjustable are required. Rear links are recommended to set clearances.
Sway Bar Bushings. Highly recommended in the front because the factory rubber bushings do not allow proper articulation when the E9X is lowered.
Springs. MCS are sized for either 2.25" (our preference) or 60mm ID springs. Spring rates and lengths are completely variable and are decided based on intended use, ride height, specific tracks, and other factors. You can buy springs a la carte or contact us for a bespoke spring package. We prefer to use a helper spring in addition to the main spring in our kits.
