The right Thrust Rod (right upper control arm) on your 1982-1988 E28 5-Series or 1983-1989 E24 6-series incorporates a large, soft bushing that is designed to remove all vibration normally transmitted through the steering system while still doing a decent job at controlling loads from the tire.
Please note: This upper control arm is only for the E28 5 Series (1982-1988) as well as the later (1983 through 1989) model E24 6 series. Not for 6 series before the 1983 model year.
The soft, rubber bushing naturally wears prematurely, causing sloppy steering, poor tire wear, and jolting or instability during braking. The ball joint in the arm can also become worn and cause bad handling and wear, so we always recommend checking it along with the bushing and lower control arm (track rod) when diagnosing issues.
NOTE: For even better handling and performance, we recommend Powerflex polyurethane bushings as an upgrade.
Our "aftermarket" arms are typically from east Asia and have a comparable quality to OEM that has increased considerably over the past several years. These aftermarket alternatives makes a great option for those trying to keep costs down while still wanting a quality part. Note: Our OEM control arms are typically from the manufacturer that made the parts that were on your car as it rolled out from the factory and are available in a separate listing.
