Outstanding MCS damper performance with the added capacity and utility of a remote reservoir. Non-Remote dampers have proven exceptional in nearly all environments from street to track but a Remote system has more utility, is more adaptable, and has a higher return on performance and consistency. Invest in a Remote damper when you're competing for lap times or in an endurance environment where high performance is demanded for extended periods.

Remote reservoir shocks separate the compression and rebound damping into two cylinders - rebound in the main shock body and compression in the remote canister. Multi-Way remote dampers and adjustments are made to achieve specific goals or address specific problem areas. A remote damper is not going to make you faster on its own and is not a “set-and-forget” component. Even with the baseline provided, proper understanding of the features will complement vehicle data and analysis to achieve your performance goals. Changes and adjustments are encouraged throughout a day/weekend to best optimize the handling for the conditions.

MCS 318ti & Z3 Remote Damper Systems -

2-Way / Double-Adjustable. The 2WR functions similarly to the Non-Remote dampers but provides the added capacity of the reservoir and more adjustability. The additional volume is advantageous during longer stints with a lot of action that creates heat and might overpower any Non-Remote damper. Expect more consistent performance over a longer duration. The Remote shocks are also better suited for a much wider range of spring rates, including at the bookends of the range (lower or higher) - typically no need to re-valve for large changes in spring rate.

3-Way / Triple Adjustable. All of the 2WR design features but the 3WR adds an adjustment for low-speed compression (10 clicks). High speed compression and rebound remain the same as in the 2WR. The low-speed helps in fine tuning the car for steady and smooth mid-corner dynamics as well as balancing weight transfer under braking or acceleration. The low-speed tuning is done without upsetting the high-speed settings. The 3WR is our most-common recommendation for advanced BMW builds that want more control over handling behavior than the 2W can provide.

4-Way / Quadruple Adjustable. The 4WR is a very advanced damper set that requires advanced knowledge of suspension design and damper behavior. The 4WR is adjustable for rebound and compression in low-speed and high-speed. It adds the low-speed rebound adjustment compared to a 3WR. Adding the low-speed rebound adjustment will help in tire traction especially when putting power down. In a high torque car (tuned F8X for example), as you power down on exit and the rear compresses then releases you may find a 2W or 3W is under-damped, causing the axles and tires to begin a hopping motion. The 4WR allows you to stiffen the rebound and keep the tire planted.

Can I run rear coil over in Z3? Coil over rear should only be done with additional bracing of the rear shock towers such as from a roll cage. Even a half cage or rollbar may not provide adequate support for the loads put upon the rear towers. In our judgement, only a cage purpose built with rear coil-over in mind should be used.

As with any MCS damper the design, engineering, and execution are all second-to-none. Each damper is designed for motorsports, not a parts-bin assembly using street or mass-production parts. The monotube shock shaft and single piston are the largest in the motorsports industry - key for fluid displacement, making quick reactions within shorter travel, and for handling the higher loads from motorsport use. An internal blow-off valve unique to MCS helps ensure system durability. Damper shafts are medium-high carbon steel, induction hardened, and chrome plated. Damper bodies are CNC machined aluminum with precision-cut threads and lightweight aluminum spring seats. All MCS dampers come with adapters and hardware where applicable, ready for the rest of your track suspension build.
