This part is listed by BMW as BMW part number 31306775098 (31 30 6 775 098) and is described as the front strut mount or front guide support. Front struts/shocks on the E82 128i/135i, E90/E92 325i/328i/330i/335i (not Xi models), E60 525i/528i/530i/535i/545i/550i (including Xi models), and E84 X1 are mounted to the chassis with this front upper strut mount. It's a dense rubber mount that also incorporates a bearing that allows the strut to rotate as the steering changes. Over time the rubber breaks down and the bearing wears out and the entire mount should be replaced. 

31336760943 vs 31306775098 strut mounts. BMW listed both part numbers over the course of E9X production. The 943 is most commonly associated with standard suspension while the 098 is most commonly linked to M Sport/Sport suspensions (although there are exceptions). Visually and geometry-wise they are identical. BMW used aluminum for the 943 housing while the 098 used steel. This is the Genuine 098 strut mount - the same part that you would get from a BMW dealer, and retains the steel housing. On this Genuine version the alignment pin is threaded into the housing and can be removed.
