This is the inner ball joint (axial rod) portion of the tie rod for G20 3-series, G22/G26 4-series, G42 2-series, and G01 X3/X4. Sometimes the inner ball joint fails while the outer is still in good working order. Replacing just the inner can save you some money (although replacing the complete tie rod may make the most sense). In other cases, you might be upgrading the outer tie rod ball joint and need a new inner.
