This is an heavy-duty version of the front left tie rod assembly for RWD E82 128i/135i, E90/E91/E92/E93 325i/328i/330i/335i, and E89 Z4 models. This is a complete tie rod, including the inner and outer pieces. While it's technically possible to replace only the outer ball joint it's our experience that the inner sees just as much wear as the outside and they should be replaced together. Worn tie rod ball joints will give a loose and disconnected steering feel as well as clunking sounds. Since the tie rods are the only direct link between your steering wheel and the wheels it's crucial to inspect tie rods annually, or more often on track-driven cars. Replace the tie rods if any play or wear is evident.
