The BimmerWorld View: A 9.5" wheel is a very common size for non-staggered wheels on E46 M3. It takes a 255-265-275 tire and still leaves plenty of clearance in the front and rear. Yes, an 18x10" is also available but will almost certainly rub on fenders, especially with broad Hoosier or Continental slick tires. The 9.5" with a summer tire also makes a great setup for drivers who are looking to advance their car control skills at the track. Less grip from a street tire will make you a better driver!ET22 or ET35?
On the E46 M3, either offset will work for 9.5" wide wheels. The ET35 is a better option, in our opinion, because it fits with the least amount of hassle. In the front the ET35 sits 7mm closer to the strut so it still clears most coil overs. ET22 would have even more clearance on the inside but there is the very likely chance that it will rub on the fender. For the rear you only need a 10-12mm wheel spacer to make it work. We would rather use the spacers for a perfect fit than have the wheels rub.Rear wheel spacers are strongly recommended
to avoid a "tucked in" look. Without the spacers the rear wheels will be further inboard than stock wheels. A 12mm spacer is perfect. A 10mm will also work but have inherent design limitations that almost guarantee fitment trouble on the rear hub.
The TA5R sets new standards for flow-formed track wheels with superior strength, light weight, huge brake clearance, and affordable. The TA5R has greater strength and more reinforcement in critical areas: more material in the outer lips, a closed-face hub, and spokes that extend to the outer lip. These features, plus the latest flow-forming manufacturing, have produced a wheel with a load rating of 720kg (1,587lbs), which is higher than other so-called track wheels.
Flow-forming and precise machining also produce a light wheel - the 18x9.5 sits on our scales at 19.58lbs. The TA5R has been fatigue and impact tested and exceeds SAE, JWL, and VIA standards. Flow-forming is a manufacturing process with a tighter grain structure than casting that makes the wheel stronger, similar to a true forged wheel. The superior process far surpasses older manufacturing that use a straight casting process.
The wide-V-spoke design stretches all the way to the outer lip, a key component to the TA5R's strength. They also allow tremendous caliper clearance behind the spokes. 18" sizes clear all 355mm brakes (Brembo F40, Monobloc, ST40, ST60) plus StopTech ST60 380mm kit.
Thanks to its lightweight barrel and robust face design, the TA5R stands up well against the rigors of endurance racing, as well as your average street potholes. The 18" TA5R features a load rating of 1,587lbs.
- Wide V-spoke design out to the outer lip - superior strength
- Flow-formed, roll-forged barrel - high strength but low weight
- Reinforced inner lip for added strength over curbs
- Knurled bead seat reduces tire slippage
- Huge spoke clearance for big brake kits
- Closed-face hub maximizes strength in the hub
- Accepts OE BMW center cap (TA5R cap included)
- Accepts factory lug bolts, wheel locks, or stud conversions
- 32mm lug hole accommodates 19mm sockets
- Protective recessed valve stem pocket
- Tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) compatible (not included)
Priced as a set of 4 wheels.Fitment Note:
we do our best to display wheels that fit your BMW model, based on your model selection. Wheels may be listed that are considered aggressive fitments or tight clearances for a particular model. Many variables must be considered for wheel fitment, especially when using larger wheels or different offsets. These variables include: suspension type and settings, ride height, tire size, bodywork changes, and alignment settings. In some cases, additional parts or modifications may be necessary for fitment that may not be listed in our catalog. Final wheel fitment and clearance is the responsibility of the customer, however, we welcome your questions on fitment, size, offset, or other wheel-related inquiries. Wheel returns are limited to quality issues only. These wheels are compatible with 10mm spacers, however, 12mm is a better choice due to known design limitations of 10mm spacers.
