This Zimmermann Z-Coat rotor fits the Left Front of the F07/F10 550i, F06/F12/F13 650i, F01 740i, and F02 740iL. It also fits 528i/535i with the rare factory High Speed Brakes Option (option code S5AE or S5AEA). This rotor is 348mm x 36mm (same diameter but 6mm wider than standard 528i or 535i brakes).
Zimmermann Z-Coat rotors are the same size as stock BMW rotors but include an anti-corrosion phosphate coating that resists rust. Uncoated aftermarket or OEM rotors will quickly rust on the middle hat and inner vanes. Zimmermann Coated rotors are made in Germany and can be found as original equipment on some Mercedes, Porsche, and Volkswagen models. This Zimmermann rotor is a single-piece cast iron rotor. The factory BMW rotor is a 2-piece iron disc with an aluminum hub. There is likely no performance difference between them but the Zimmermann will be slightly heavier compared to stock. We also offer the OEM Pilenga rotors that are 2-piece and coated.
High Speed Brakes
The F10 528i/535i was offered with a "High Speed Brakes" option (option code S5AEA) which used the stock rotors and calipers from the heavier and faster 550i. Although a rare option, we encourage 528i/535i owners to check their brakes before ordering to ensure the correct parts are supplied. There are two ways to tell if you have the High Speed Brakes option: the front rotors are directionally vented (the cooling vanes sweep towards the rear) and the rear rotors are 345mm (13.58") instead of 330mm (12.99"). If in doubt, you can contact us with your VIN and we can check for you.
Note 1: this rotor may be listed as "Brake rotor, light blue, ventilated" elsewhere. The "light blue" is an improper translation of "leichtbau", the German phrase for light weight and it referred to the two-piece design. Somehow it was entered into the BMW parts catalog (ETK) as "leichtb
lau" or "light blue". The rotors are grey in color.
