This headlight switch was used on all E36 (1992-1999 generation) BMW 3 series. This includes 3 series as offered in the 1992 , 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998 and 1999 model years.

This aftermarket switch is made by Febi Bilstein, a company who has supplied parts to BMW and other European vehicle manufacturers. This switch is considerably less expensive than a Genuine BMW headlight switch, but functions exactly the same. This cartridge (which installs into the headlight control assembly, behind the knob) is also not a part that's visible from the car - so there is no perceived difference using this part over the very expensive original parts. Save with a quality aftermarket replacement, and use those savings on something more fun than a headlight switch!
