BMW used a plastic screw for this license plate brackets so they would not rust or cause corrosion on the trunk lid / rear hatch. But because they are plastic, they break fairly easily and may need to be replaced to reattach your rear license plate bracket to the trunk or hatch. We recommend buying a few spares to have if you are reattaching the rear license plate bracket that uses this pesky plastic screw.
