This part is listed by BMW as BMW part number 51488193941 (51 48 8 193 941) and is described as Genuine BMW Hood / Engine Sound Insulation Pad for the 1999-2006 E46 3 series (all except M3). 

This sound deadening / insulation panel comes on all non-M model E46 3 series, which includes all 1999 4 door 3 series, all 2000-2005 3 series (2 and 4 door), and all 2006 3 series 2 door models. This includes all 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005 3 series (coupe, sedan, wagon and convertible) as well as the mentioned 1999 4 doors and 2006 2 door coupe/convertible model 325Ci and 330Ci (including ZHP). 

If your original sound deadening is missing from the hood of your E46, or has deteriorated (perhaps from age, mouse or rodent nests, or other damage) you'll want a fresh hood insulation trim, and the Genuine BMW replacement part is quite affordable, with a 100% perfect fitment, just as the car came from the factory. 

-Not for 1999 2 door models.

Shipping Note: Please note that this hood foam insulation is a pretty large piece, so the shipping is reflective of it's bulky size. While it only weights just a few pounds, it's nearly 6 feet long and 3 feet wide (and just a couple inches thick). We take great care to make sure this piece arrives in tact, and rolling or folding it just isn't an option.
