Windshield Washer Level Sensor - E36 (3/96+) E38 E39 E31 - 61318360459

This part is listed by BMW as BMW part number 61318360459 (61 31 8 360 459) and is described as Windshield Washer Level Sensor used on several BMW chassis including the E36 3 Series (03/1996 production and newer), E38 7 Series, E39 5 Series, and E31 8 Series (03/1996 production and newer). 

This sensor is what determines if you are low on windshield washing fluid. When it fails, you will get an erroneous "Low Washer Fluid" warning all the time. Replacing the sensor with this new washer level sensor is a simple fix. 

Not for 3 series or 8 Series before 3/1996 (March of 1996) build date. This is the later style level sensor, which didn't appear on the 3 series until the middle of the 1996 model year. Any 1997, 1998 or 1999 model E36 will use this sensor, while you should check your production date on a 1996 model to verify.
