You are getting an ABS/DSC light / error on your instrument cluster, the wheel speed sensors are often the culprit. You (or your mechanic) should check the ABS fault codes. If it suggests a wheel speed sensor, this can be a fairly easy and inexpensive fix. 

This sensor is specific to the rear of the AWD model E46 3 series, which includes the 325xi sedan, 325xiT wagon, and 330xi sedan in model years 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005. You can use this on either the left or right side -- but make sure you buy two if you are replacing both the driver and passenger sides simultaneously.
