This part is listed by BMW as BMW part number 17138617045 (17 13 8 617 045) and is described as the expansion tank for the top-mount charge air cooler on F22 230i/M240i, F30 330i/340i, F32 430i/440i models with the B46 4-cylinder or B58 6-cylinder turbo engines. With the intercooler in the intake manifold, a separate cooling circuit that is separate from the main engine cooling is used. This is the reservoir for the intake manifold intercooler.
