Planning a preemptive replacement of your water pump and thermostat is a smart move. Because the pump is electric, when it fails it does so completely and without warning. The thermostat is also electric but will likely fail in the open position (you'll get cold air from the heater). We strongly recommend replacing the water pump and thermostat within 80,000 miles. This package covers the pump, thermostat, and minor hardware.

Complete package contents -
11518635090, OEM water pump
11517602123, OEM water pump hardware kit
11537598865, OEM thermostat
07129952119, OEM 42-48mm hose clamp (x3)
07129952113, OEM 28-33mm hose clamp (x1)

Note: you can replace the pump and thermostat independently. But both have similar lifespans and similar replacement procedures (including draining, filling, and bleeding the system). So if one goes you should expect the other to follow shortly after.

If your hoses are only a few years old they may not need to be replaced. New hoses are not required with the pump or thermostat. Because of all of the various systems and modules in a F3X replacing one hose is often more complicated than expected. Plan to replace many hoses (with more components removed for access) or none*. However, there are a lot of plastic connectors and crimped fittings that can be a source of leaks, especially when re-using old-age hoses. We encourage you to inspect the engine bay and plan accordingly. See the links below for a selection of related hoses.

*there is one hose that is a must-have replacement on any N55: the cylinder head outlet return hose to the thermostat. This has a plastic flange fitting where it meets the engine. It's shape gives it a “Mickey Mouse” nickname. The plastic is a known weak point and cause for N55 coolant leaks. Coolant leaking onto the belt is a primary cause of belt failure and belt ingestion into the crank seal. So if you're planning a thermostat replacement also plan on replacing this hose (BMW part #11537598234). You can replace just the flange connector with aluminum or replace the complete hose with a new flange.

BMW coolant is sold separately (or purchase it locally to save on shipping).

This package is made up of an OEM water pump and thermostat parts for the 2012+ models with the N55 "twin-power turbo" engine. OEM parts are the best alternative to more expensive Original BMW parts because they are virtually identical without the inflated price tag. These parts have a two year warranty.
