The Center Support Bearing is responsible for mounting and smooth operation of the two-piece driveshaft on E53 X5 3.0/4.4/4.6is/4.8is.
The center support bearings (CSB) joins the two halves of the driveshaft together. There is a sealed set of ball bearings with a rubber mount and frame bolted to the chassis of the car. At some point either the bearings or rubber mount will fail, even under normal use. Symptoms include vibration or a whine/hum noise coming from the center of the car, and an audible clunk especially when pulling away from a stop. These are signs of a failing CSB and you should plan on replacing it soon. The CSB is an inexpensive fix but labor intensive so professional or experienced installation is recommended.
This is a Genuine BMW Center Support Bearing with a two year warranty. Buying a Genuine part will usually be more expensive than an OEM or aftermarket brand but you are assured that it meets BMW's designs for fitment, performance, and longevity. It will also be the very latest design, incorporating any updates or revisions that an aftermarket brand typically will ignore.
