This drain plug fits all rear differentials, whether it's xDrive or not.
If your vehicle is an xDrive AWD model, it also fits the front differential. In some cases there is no drain plug so this fits as a fill plug only.
* - the low profile head is meant to clear sway bars on the rear differential. However, some bars are just so big that there is no room for anything but the original inside hex screw plug.

Metal particles in your oil is inevitable and your filter is there to trap the larger pieces and prevent them from getting into critical places. However, smaller particles get through the filter and get flow through the system. In many cases they can build up or collect, creating a potentially catastrophic blockage.
