This part is listed by BMW as BMW part number 27107546671 and is described as "Set Positioning Motor" (better known as a transfer case actuator motor) for E9X 3 Series and E60/E61 5 Series with xDrive, including E90 325xi, 328xi, 330xi and 335xi sedan (2006-2011), E91 325xi & 328xi wagon (2006-2012), E92 328xi & 335xi coupes (2007-2012), E60 5 Series sedan 525xi, 528xi, 530xi & 535xi (2004-2010), and E61 wagon 530xi & 535xi (2005-2010). 

This is the servo motor which engages the xDrive AWD (All wheel drive) system's transfer case. When it fails, the xDrive system will struggle or completely fail to engage. Faults and codes are recorded, and you may hear metallic crunching/grinding noises from the teeth of the gears not making proper contact and failing to engage the rack within the transfer case. 

This part is a fairly common failure on the xDrive E9X 3 models, as offered in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 (and 2012 wagon/coupes), as well as E6X 5 Series xDrive in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010.

This is an OEM xDrive motor manufactured by the original supplier to BMW for this part, as well as many other engine and driveline systems. As the OEM it meets all of BMW's original design, fitment, and performance requirements and is TUV approved. OEM parts are the best alternative to more expensive Original BMW parts because they are virtually identical without the inflated price tag. In some cases the part would have come from BMW stock but without BMW branding or logo. This part has a two year warranty.
