VANOS Oil Pump Disk, Dr Vanos - E46 M3, MZ3, Z4M, S54

The S54 VANOS system has it's own internal oil pressure regulator and oil pump driven by tabs on the exhaust camshaft hub. However, the holes on the pump disk are oversized compared to the tabs on the hub. This leads to a rattle and/or broken tabs.

The solution that many have come up with is a modified oil pump disk with smaller holes that don't allow as much slop in the fitment with a factory original exhaust hub. Use this with your original hub with the smaller tabs. This is an alternative to buying a new hub with larger tabs. This modified disk uses an original piece with two new holes drilled in place (BMW does not sell the disc separately).

Installation can only be done with the VANOS removed from the engine so the perfect time to upgrade your S54 VANOS oil disk is when rebuilding or replacing the VANOS unit.
