This part is listed by BMW as BMW part number 11158647961 (11-15-8-647-961) and is described as the crankcase vent pipe and fresh air pipe for the N63TU engines found in 2013-2016 F07/F10 550i, 2013-2019 F06/F12/F13 650i, and 2013-2013 F01/F02 750i. The N63TU engine is different than the earlier "N63A" engine. This breather pipe transfers oil vapor from bank 1 (right) to bank 2 (left) where it gets dumped into the intake. It also supplies fresh air when the crankcase check valves are open. The fresh air is crucial for the N63 crankcase vent system to function properly.
New o-ring seals for both banks are included with this vent pipe.

This is only a vent pipe. The actual oil separators are part of the valve covers and can be replaced on their own - BMW part #11158636541.
The N63 crankcase vent valve is responsible for separating oil from the air inside the engine and air intake. Liquid oil is returned to the cylinder head (and oil pan) while oil vapors are sent to the intake to be burned up during the combustion cycle. It's also known as a a PCV, CCV, and oil separator system. Too much oil in the intake air lowers the effective fuel octane, leads to drivability issues, and causes increased emissions. A completely blocked CCV has the potential for very serious engine failure (hydrolock) if liquid oil ends up in the intake. Signs of a failing CCV include: whistling noises in the intake, blueish smoke in the exhaust, high oil consumption, and thick white or yellow gunk under the oil cap. Note: high oil consumption on the N63 has
several potential causes.

This part is manufactured by an aftermarket supplier of European auto parts, including many engine components. While not carrying OEM status, this part follows the design of the original very closely and uses similar materials. An aftermarket part may even have the same TUV approval as its OEM counterpart.
