This part is listed by BMW as BMW part number 11127500568 (11 12 7 500 568) and is described as the original engine oil filler cap used on E46 325i SULEV (M56 engine), E90 325i/330i, E60 525i/530i (N52 engine), and E85/E86 Z4 3.0i/3.0si. This is the original-style cap with the hinged base and the Castrol logo on top.

The oil cap has a rubber seal on the underside that prevents oil spillage and vapors from escaping the valve cover. But, like any seal, it can wear out or become damaged and allow an oil leak at the filler neck. A new cap is required.
