There are two of these sensors mounted on the bellhousing of the transmission. The sensors are the same but perform different functions. They send position data back to the Motronic ECU - one sensor provides engine RPM, the other provides a TDC timing reference. A failure of one sensor will affect your engine operation and/or engine starting. It's not a bad idea to keep 1 or even 2 of these sensors are spares.
