Crank Position Sensor - E36 318i 318is 318ti M42 (1992-1995) 12141734818

This part is listed by BMW as BMW part number 12141734818 (12-14-1-734-818) and is described as Pulse Generator for E36 318i, 318is, 318ti (1992, 1993, 1994, 1995) with the M42 4 cylinder engine. Also fits the 1995 318ti. Not for cars after the 1995 model year. 

This part is also commonly referred to as the crankshaft position sensor, or CPS, for short. When the crank sensor goes bad, it can leave your 318i / 318is / 318ti in a "no start" scenario. The engine will turn/crank, but the fuel injection system will not deliver the necessary spark required to start the engine. Without the signal from the CPS, the engine control unit (ECU) cannot time the spark reliably, as it can not tell the position of the 4 cylinders while the engine is rotating. This is a very common issue on these 1992, 1993, 1994, and 1995 models.
