The crank sensor (CPS) tells the ECU what position the crankshaft, cams, and pistons are in in order to set timing for engine startup. Without engine position the ECU doesn't have the best data to allow the engine to start. If you notice extended cranking is required for the engine to start it is likely a failed CPS. Sometimes the CPS may be dirty or mounted too far away from the crank pulley and it simply needs cleaning or adjustment. Otherwise complete replacement is required.

As the OEM it meets all of BMW's original design, fitment, and performance requirements and is TUV approved.
