Not for cars after the 1997 model year. This oil level sensor is only for earlier cars, and not for cars after 1997. If your BMW is after 1997, then this is not oil level sensor you are looking for. This sensor was also used on some Euro-spec S50 engine, but only the European 3.0 liter, and not US cars. If you're buying for a Euro-spec M3 3.0 liter, please double-check your fitment before ordering.

This sensor is mounted in the oil pan and monitors the oil level, reporting a reading to the engine control unit (ECU). A fault sensor will mis-report the oil level reading, and (at best) will cause a false alarm of an oiling problem, or (at worse) if left untreated will mask a catastrophic oiling issue, potentially causing much larger issues. For this reason, we recommend replacing a faulty oil pan-mounted level sensor with a high quality OEM level sensor like this one.
