Engine Oil Filler Cap, Rein - E36, E46, E34, E39, E60, X3, X5, Z3, Z4

Many components on modern BMWs are sealed to regulate pressure inside the engine as well as prevent vapors from escaping into the atmosphere. A faulty cap may not be able to regulate the vacuum inside the engine and can cause a rought idle, throttle surging, or rough running. It's rare for an oil cap to cause these issues so make sure you check other systems first (intake boots and hoses). There is also a seal on the oil cap to prevent oil from leaking and a new cap might be required to stop leaks. Tip: when removing the cap, do not leave it upside down. This causes oil to leak past the seal. BMW recommends you place the cap right side up with a towel underneath on your workbench, valve cover, etc.

Note: this replacement oil cap does not say "Castrol" or "BMW" on it like the original cap from years ago. It will only have the small oil can as pictured.
