Red Line Engine Break-In Additive provides conventional motor oils with anti-wear additives like zinc and phosphorus (ZDDP) that are necessary to protect against premature camshaft and valvetrain wear. While designed for optimal engine break-in, this formula is ideal for extra anti-wear protection at any time.
Street Car Applications
This Engine Break-In Additive is a great addition to street cars that use API-approved oils such as Mobil 1, Castrol Syntec, and BMW Synthetic. To comply with API's new emissions standards, these oils lack the necessary ZDDP and anti-wear packages needed for long term ownership and use. We recommend half a bottle of Red Line Break-In Additive with every oil change if you are not using a synthetic oil containing a proper ZDDP anti-wear package such as Red Line. These additives are especially important for the valvetrain, where larger camshafts grinds and higher valve spring pressures are used. This formula is designed to allow piston rings to seat properly while allowing other engine components to avoid excessive wear.
Track and race cars can also benefit from the use of Redline's Break-In Additive. This is a great addition to a conventional oil fill during the first few hundred miles of new-engine break-in. The additive allows for a proper piston ring break-in while reducing the camshaft's initial break-in wear. Continual use of Red Line Engine Break-In Additive will increase the longevity of your investment.
One 16oz bottle treats up to 12 quarts of motor oil, so in many cases one bottle can protect for 2 oil services.
