This is the electronic drive-by-wire throttle body for the M54 3.0. The throttle is controlled with a sensor and electric motor. When the sensor or motor goes bad the EML dash light will come on, the idle speed will be erratic, and the car will likely be in limp mode. Since the sensor and motor are not replaceable the entire assembly needs to be replaced.
