This part is listed by BMW as BMW part number 61358376273 (61 35 8 376 273) and is described as Control Unit for Xenon Light, as used on some 1997-1998 E38 7 Series as well as 1999, 2000 and 2001 E46 3 series and the first year E46 M3 (2001 models). 

This xenon control unit (sometimes referred to as a headlight ballast, ballast pack, starter ballast, and other names) can fail, leaving one of your xenon headlights not working, flickering, or throwing headlight warning lights on your instrument cluster. 

This control unit is made by the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) to BMW, and guarantees you perfect operation and fitment, without the super high dealer price. Being an OEM control unit, you can expect years of perfect operation and a full 2 year warranty. 

3 Series fitment notes: 
Not for cars before the 1999 model year. 
Not for cars after the 2001 model year. 

7 Series fitment notes: 
For 740i, 740il, 750iL cars produced between 3/1997 and 9/1998 (between March 1997 and September 1998). 

Sold individually. There are two of these control units installed per car. If you are replacing both sides, be sure to order two.
