An all-business GT3-style steering wheel for the no-nonsense driver.

Dedicated racing steering wheels hold several advantages over stock, factory wheels - they are lighter and simpler, smaller for quicker steering reaction, with better grip for driving gloves. But removing a stock wheel on a modern BMW creates havoc with the vehicle electronics and airbag sensors. KMP Drivetrain of The Netherlands has reverse-engineered the communications and pass-through controls needed to use a racing steering wheel with no errors and faults.

This wheel is a replica of the one used in the M6 GT3 race car, but in a nearly plug-and-play fitment for a production car. This half-rim has a grippy and slip-resistant rubber grip, aluminum spacer or quick-release hub, pre-programmed and empty buttons.

* - this wheel has 8 buttons total with 4 available for custom programming (blue, red, and yellow). Other buttons come pre-programmed for M mode 1, M mode 2, DTC, and horn. Custom buttons are switched to ground with terminated wires routed through the hub and ready for connection. Some very minor wiring work is required. This involves removing pin(s) from original connectors and re-installing them in new, supplied connectors. Small screwdrivers or pick tools will be required. Cutting, splicing, or soldering is not required for most OEM functions unless your wheel options call for it.

Connector Options: standard aluminum spacer hub, quick-release hub with connector, or quick-release hub with coiled cable

Connection through the hub is done as either a fixed spacer (no release) or two quick-release options - one with a direct socket connection between wheel and hub and the other using a traditional coiled cable. If using the direct connection, additional care must be used to ensure no pins or connections are damaged.

This product is sold only for racing, competition, track, hobby, or other off-road use. It's use is prohibited in any motor vehicle that is subject to safety inspection or control. The mounting hub is a solid, non-collapsible design. Removing the airbag is a serious safety risk and should never be done when stock 3-point seat belts are still in use. 4 or 6-point racing harnesses must be used instead. The smaller wheel rim may block the stock instrument cluster depending on seating position. Legal only for racing vehicles that may never be used, or registered or licensed for use, upon a public highway.
