Worn bushings will affect the ride, handling, and steering of the car and can also cause clunking noises and vibrations. The inner bushing naturally wears out and becomes too soft and the outer ball joint will also wear and develop play. When either becomes too worn it will ruin the driving experience and possibly cause a suspension failure. A worn control arm bushing will cause the alignment to change beyond the required spec and affect tire wear. A really bad bushing will even affect toe alignment in a straight line, not just in the corners. Drivers will often note that the rear of the car does not feel planted or complain of wandering or loose feeling as the car no longer tracks straight down the road. To restore steering precision and taught handling, replace the control arms at the first sign of wear.
