This hose supplies the power steering pump with fluid from the reservoir. BMW calls it an "intake manifold" or "suction pipe". The hose can also swell over time, causing a leak, and the hose must be replaced. A crimped hose clamp was originally used but this can expand and cause a PS fluid leak as well. We suggest using traditional worm clamps with the new hose.
This hose only fits models equipped with Active Steering (option code S217). Active Steering models have a power steering reservoir with a hex bolt in the center of the cap (non Active cars use a spin-on cap).
Chances are very good that one or more of your E82 128i, E9X 325i/328i/330i power steering hoses are leaking. Power steering leaks are a not uncommon trait of BMW ownership. Most of the leaks can be traced to old hoses and fittings that have been in service for too long. Just like cooling hoses and belts, rubber power steering lines need periodic replacement. Don't wait too long to replace a leaking power steering line! It's only going to get worse and coat the underside of your engine in dirty oil. Replace them before they fail in order to save you from further headaches and expenses.
