This part is listed by BMW as BMW part number 17113452509 (17 11 3 452 509) and is described as Genuine BMW Fan Housing with Fan, 400W, for the first generation BMW X3 (which is the E83 chassis), as offered for the 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 model years as the X3 2.5i, X3 3.0i and X3 3.0si.

This is the 400w (400 watt) electric engine cooling can and fan housing, which originally came with 6 fan blades and came on many BMW X3 models that didn't come with the larger hot climate 600w fan (found here). If your X3 has the 400W fan, this replacement is the perfect remedy to a failed or failing electric fan. The most common symptom when your electric fan fails is that your X3 will overheat while sitting parked or in traffic. Once your X3 achieves cruising speeds, this fan isn't need and cycles to the OFF position, which will mask the problem if you do lots of highway driving. If your X3 is hot and idling, and you DON'T hear or see the electric fan spinning, this is an indication your fan has failed and will eventually lead to overheating. Also, if your AC is on, this fan should always be on and running as well, making the AC button a good way to test your electric fan while parked.

Supersedes the following BMW part numbers:
17113414008 (17-11-3-414-008)
17113401056 (17-11-3-401-056)

If you are looking for the larger 600w fan (as used on cars with hot-climate preparation) you should look at BMW part # 17113442089 instead.
