The N53, N63TU, S63, and S63TU uses a vacuum pump to generate vacuum for the brake booster, turbocharger wastegate actuators, and other things like the exhaust flap. A lack of brake pressure or higher braking effort may intake a failure of the vacuum pump. It's located on top of the passenger-side valve cover and driven by the camshaft.

N63 note: this is the latest version of the Genuine BMW pump. BMW offered an extended warranty on certain original N63 models and you can check with your dealer to see if your car is covered. This is the newest, latest vacuum pump that BMW will sell you if the warranty does not apply.

This is a Genuine BMW N63/S63 replacement vacuum pump with a two year warranty. This is “version 2” of the original pump (see note above). It has the usual 2-year warranty.
